Free Resources

Everybody loves a freebie! There’s quite a few free sheet music sites, scroll down for free worksheets, theory, flashcards and more.

Free Sheet Music

Music for Music Teachers
Dana has a great site here, with beginner music for Guitar, Piano and Vocal. Her vocal stuff is mostly classical and Broadway musicals, but she has a few original compositions up there too.

MUSOPEN
Mus-open is a non-profit focused on increasing access to music by creating free resources and educational material. They have a huge range of out of copyright classical music, but the educational part of their website seems to be still under construction. I am excited to see where this project will go!!

Free Scores .com
This site is ok, it has a wide range of instruments, just avoid clicking on the ads.

The International Music Score Library Project
I am a little in love with this site. It has a massive amount of classical music available to download, is very well organised, and has a wide variety of instruments (lots of piano scores).

Music Scores
Music Scores will ask you to become a member, but they have a wide variety of free scores that are available without membership. The free vocal scores are mostly Christmas carols (with piano accompaniment). The free piano scores are your more popular Beethoven and Chopin etc.

Sheet music USA
This site is limited to just piano and guitar. The guitar stuff is useful as most have TAB as well as notes. They use the term ‘beginner’ loosely – most of their music is for intermediates.

Traditional Music Library
This is a treasure-trove of traditional music. Basically this site has photocopied every page of a hundred or so books. It has a huge collection of American folk and traditional music and SO MANY educational/children’s songs. This is a great teacher resource!

Cantorion
This has HEAPS of classical music for many instruments. A great resource.

Making Music Fun
Unfortunately there are a few ads that make using this website confusing for some kids. Otherwise this is a cute little resource for classical music, with composer info, printable worksheets and free sheet music.

Free Theory

Virtual Piano
This is a simple website with one function – it shows you every chord and scale on the piano. This is a great one to remember for those learning new scales or wanting to follow a lead sheet. I highly recommend having a quick play around on this, if only to be astounded by how many scales and chords there are. (Don’t panic, I won’t make you learn them all…)

Piano World has a huge list of websites with free music scores – some of them are great, some are just ads.
